BAAFTA offers a 12 months theatre course for students aspiring to take up the theatre as a hobby or as a profession

Indian theatre the earliest form was the Sanskrit theatre. It emerged sometime in 15th century BC to1st century and flourished between the 1st century and the 10th, which was a period of relative peace in the history of India during which hundreds of plays were written.The major source of evidence for Sanskrit theatre is A Treatise on Theatre (Natyasastra), and whose authorship is attributed to Bharata Muni. The Treatise is the most complete work of dramaturgy in the ancient world; it addresses acting, dance, music, dramatic construction, architecture, costuming, make-up, props, the audience, competitions, and offers a mythological account of the origin of theatre.

Kalidasa in the 1st century BC is arguably considered to be ancient India's greatest Sanskrit dramatist. Three famous romantic plays written by Kalidasa are the Malavikagnimitram, Vikramurvashiiya and Abhijnasakuntala.It was first to be translated in English and German. Sakuntala (English translation) influenced Goethe's Faust (1808–1832).

Rabindranath Tagore was a pioneering modern playwright who wrote plays noted for their exploration and questioning of nationalism, identity and material greed. His plays are written in Bengali which includesChitra (Chitrangada, 1892), The King of the Dark Chamber (Raja, 1910), The Post Office (Dakghar, 1913), and Red Oleander (Raktakarabi, 1924).

BAAFTA One Year Theatre Course Include

  Introduction to Script writing

In the course of the year, the students will be required to participate in stage Productions, street plays, mime presentations and folk performances.

Student assessments are done by theory and practical examinations at the end of the year and internal appraisals done by the tutors and the visiting directors to the school throughout the course.


Outcome from Theatre course

The course is interactive, involving various group and individual exercises / activities that make it a wonderful experience of learning. The student gets to know of every aspect of Theatre at all stages of the process; from Stage Design, Acting, Makeup, Costume, Lighting, and Set work

The student can choose to continue a more detailed deep dive into the area of their interest after pursuing this course. The course provides hands-on experience with assistance in makeup, stage design, lighting, set work as the final project. The course includes3 classroom production & 1 mega production to perform.
