History of Filmmaking

The first public Kinetoscope demonstration took place in 1893. By 1894 the Kinetoscope was a commercial success. The first to present projected moving pictures to a paying audience were the Lumiere brothers in December 1895 in Paris, France.The world's first full-length feature film was The Story of the Kelly Gang, made in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1906.

In 1896, the Lumiere brothers demonstrated the art of cinema when they screened Cinematography consisting of six short films to an enthusiastic audience in Bombay.

When it comes to Indian Cinema, the first motion picture in late 1910s and was introduced by late Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, also popularly known as Dada Saheb Phalke, through the film “Raja Harishchandra”. He is also considered to be the “Father of Indian cinema”.

Durga Bai Kamat was a first female actor in Indian cinema. She is known for being India's first heroine by working in the second film of Dada saheb Phalke, Mohini Bhasmasur.

Script writing - Script writing, is the art of penning down scripts for mass media consumption, such as feature films, short films, television, documentaries and advertisements.

Direction - A film director’s most basic yet crucial role is to visualize the screenplay and bring it to life by putting together all technical and creative aspects.

Cinematography - Cinematography is the craft of translating the script into visuals in a motion picture.

Editing - Editing is a part of the post-production process that includes a combination of both technical and creative aspects.

Acting - Acting is an activity in which a story is told by means of its enactment by an actor who adapts a character

Importance of Music - Music is the integral aspect in film making without which the director will not be able to convey and reach out to the audience holistically

Pre-production - The process of filmmaking can be divided into three sections – creative, technical and financial.
